LG GDR-8162B any good?

Hi.

I just bought a LG DVD-Rom 16x (LG-GDR8162B v015).
It was really cheap but I'm having a hard time reading DVD+-RWs on it, so maybe I was hasty.

Is the drive any good at all?
I'm thinking of selling it and buying another one (Samsung 16x is the quickest option, everything else must really be worth it as it won't be as easy to buy them as the Samsung 16x).

I can get a Asus E616 Retail... dunno about a E616p1.

I'm thinking about either a Samsung SD-616E (anything to do with the Asus E616?) or a LiteOn XJ-HD16X (dunno what the X stands for, probably either 162, 163, 165 or 166).

Any advices?
UPDATE: I've confirmed, the XJ-HD16X I was mentioning is actually the latest DVDROM (SOHD-167T)

well xj -hd 166s is the naming scheme of liteon since they are making drives with jvc.

liteon 166s can read dvd ram,can rip safedisc ver 2.8 and audio protected disc fast.

liteon 167t has better seek times with dual layer dvd and cdr-rw.

both have excellent dvd+rw dvd-rw reading capabilites.
sony ddu1612 is a liteon 166s oem.

the choice is yours.

Hello!

LG´s Reader-drives are not to recommend, they slow and have weak error-correction.

Get a Aopen AAP 1648 or a LiteOn 166/167

I don´t know what the new Toshiba can do. the old 1612 and 1712 were very good drives, but the newer 1802 not.

Thanx for the advice, I already bought the SOHD-167T and I'm quite happy with it.

I still can't put Kprobe2 to work though :(
