No.

I think Matsushita=Panasonic=Technics=National Panasonic.

I dont think they have marketed under the Matshita brand.

I don't know. Matshita may be a mangling of Matsushita. The problem is that the original name is written in Japanese characters, not Roman characters. When one translates the name into Roman characters it can be done in many ways, including (in addition to the already mentioned) Matushita, Matusita and Matsusita.

A Google search for Matshita yields a ton of hits for Panasonic/Matsushita.

Having said all that, I do believe that the official transliteration used by the company is Matsushita:

Scour, are you seeing Matshita on third-party materials or printed right on the box?

Okay, I just found multiple instances of "Matshita" on Panasonic/Matsushita's web site. Here is one example:

http://panasonic.co.jp/pcc/products/dri ... xp_st.html

That answers it: Matshita = Matsushita = Panasonic.

Confusion like this is what results when you try to write 松下 with Roman letters.

Maybe one of the Matsushita-guys made a Typo and the result is Matshita

Matshita is just a shortened version which would fit in the 8 character limit for Brand names when drives are inquiried. Matshita = Matsushita and yes Matshita is closely related to Panasonic, but I don't know exactly how they're related. I think they're basically the same company.

Panasonic and National are brand names that Masushita corp. uses to market their products. in the US and Europe at least, maybe things are different in Japan, far east.
