Lite-On 16P9S vs. Asus E616P3 with bad CD-R ripping in EAC

Before I bought these two DVD-ROMs, I read some reviews/results/comparisons among various DVD-ROMs and came to the conclusion that the Lite-On (retail) was better for CD-Rs and the Asus (OEM) was better for DVD-Rs and that the Lite-On, apparently, had better error correction. Well, it seems when using EAC (latest version), the Asus may be better at ripping the music off bad CD-Rs (labelled and maybe some scratches) when using detected error-correction settings. I usually try the Lite-On first, then the Asus and the Asus has ripped some tracks with no problems that the Lite-On could not. Asus also just ripped right through a CD-R last night that I thought for sure would have problems. Lite-On is using the official FS09 firmware that was already on the drive when I bought it and Asus is using the 1.05 OEM firmware and can't be flashed yet. Am I not using the correct settings in EAC for the Lite-On or what? Any ideas?

Just flashed the Asus to the new 1.07 OEM firmware at Dangerous Brothers. Only the future will tell how it does.
