Hello,

Is this particular CD-ROM drive known for good Digital Audio Extraction(DAE)?

Hello,

Speed is not as critical to me as audio quality. Would this drive provide error free extraction of CD audio?

Thank you

Thank you for your help. Just found it is excellent for DAE from a friend who has one. I was asking since an UNcle of mine is giving me one as a belated Christmas present to replace the annoying 48x Sony I have that cannot seem to do DAE without pops, hisses, and glitches.

Well, guess what - just realized that a local store carries both Afreey56x($35) & Asus52x($37) Retail !...so I'll get BOTH today, & check them out. The one less liked goes back to the store.

I agree with Flyer22. The CD S520 rocks. This is the best cd-rom drive I or my friends have ever used. I am extremely pleased with the low noise levels of the drive as well. At around $30, it's a great drive for a great price. Kudos to Asus once again on a great product.

Went to a store & got only a Retail (Feb2002) Asus S520A (the Afreey was OEM only) Checked the drive with my Lite-On40125S/S0A, and compared to my other CDRom - a new Acer56x. Well, after just one burn DAE Supernatural(Santana)75min, noticed it took 52 sec less to burn it with Asus (including a new Lite-On fw, too) than with Acer

3.27min vs. 4.19min on Acer gold 16x media (50pak spindle - BBuy)

Anyways, Asus is by far the best built CDRom I've ever seen - down to every detail - in fact it pbly beats most burners out there too.
First time I actually saw a volume wheel well designed & the right size - to fit a larger hand too. The metal headphones jack ring is a nice touch. The tray loading mechanism is tight & smooth (even tho it's a belt driven one !)
To make it short - Asus stays in my puter period. 8)
