I am trying to use Nero CD Speed to test how fast my cd drive can rip to my computer. The speed of the extraction only goes up to 16x, but when I have a data cd. It goes up to 40x

I am running WinXP SP1 and the drive is a Pioneer DVD-106

Can someone please explain why this is happening?

thanks in advance,
willie

That is as fast as the 106S can do DAE:

Your drive is performing to specification.

which was reviewed right here

I am only getting 8x on audio and easily over 30x on data.

thanks for the help

My 40 wide did that after I did some upgrades and a firmware upgrade fixed it. The firmware said one of the improvements was DAE speed locked to 8x with some SCSI cards fixed. You might want to check that out, it was made about the same time as the 40 so it might have the same flaw and fix with it's firmware.

thanks
