Can you author DVD without menus?

OK, first question in the forum. I'm very new to DVD authoring, although I have made hundreds of VCDs. My program is going to be Nero recode 2. It's possible to strip a DVD down to just the main movie. If you just burn the movie content to a DVD+/-R with Nero Recode 2, how is it going to be played in a stand-alone DVD player? Do you really need menus for a DVD video to be functional? I can change the audio/subtitle/chapters via the remote, so I don't really need the menus.

It plays automatically when inserted into the Home Dvd Player. No,you don't need menus.I do 70% of my movies like that(no menus). You won't have any probs doing it that way.I change the subtitles the same way also, with a remote.Just rip it then pop it in the Player and your in business.

Each clip of video is called a title and DVD's can support up to 99 titles and 99 chapters per title. You can navigate the titles by using the "<< >>" buttons on your remote. One drawback to not having menus is if your titles have chapters then "<< >>" only controls the chapters.
