Can't delete avi file

Sorry if this isn't the correct place to post this topic but, I have an avi file on my computer that I can't delete. Whenever I attempt to delete the file, I get an error messege that states, " Can not delete 'file name'. Its being used by another person or program." The program is not being used by any other person or program that I know of. I restart and attempt to delete, but still no go. What can I do?

I got into this same thing about 2 months ago.
I found out that I could delete it from inside Nero's CD/DVD compilation screen.
It's accessable from the File Browser window. Just click & delete it.

This prevents explorer from loading shmedia.dll which is used to provide you with properties of AVI (DivX) files. My understanding is that due to the way DivX files are encoded, XP has trouble collecting the properties and gives you the file in use message when you try to delete them." This fix works perfectly it would also be a good idea to backup (export) the registry before you begin.

Windows XP is severely b0rked. While it can PLAY open-dml avi files (an extension to the AVI file format introduced 1996), shmedia can't, and screws the explorer up.
This happens with all files made with avi-mux gui before 1.16.5. I knew that M$ people were stupid sometimes, but THIS, well....
