I have been using the latest version of DVD Shrink to back up some of my DVDs (Mainly those onse the kids watch most often). I removed all the extras including extra audio streams to fit onto a disk. However several of the back ups freeze near the end of the film. Some the freezing is not very noticable while others are so bad you cannot watch the end of the movie. Any one with any sugestions?

Try defragging your hard drive. Technically, you should Defragment your hard drive right after you delete your movies from your hard drive. This also prevents ghosting. I have done this procedure continually, and have no problems with either DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter. [-X

My system spec - 2600+ Athalon, with 1024 of RAM. Cannot remember what the graphics card is. The DVD burner is a NEC DVD_RWND-2500A. I have used both bulqpac and Ritek disks with the same result. It is the end of the movie that freezes. Sometimes occaisonally other times so bad you cannot watch the end of the film. Other times there are no probelms.

Hope this helps.

Sorry -

Burn software is Nero 6 and I do occaisonally defrag but not after every film has been deleted.

My first guess is it's the media:try Fuji,Sony,Maxell or Verbatim DLP...look for 'Made In Japan'.
Also in DVDShrink->Preferences set Target Size to Custom and enter 4300(or less),then make an ISO and burn with Nero or DVDDecrypter.

Looking through other threads it appears that this 4.3gb threshold comes up frequently. If it is the media then why does the film play okay on one player but freezes on another mmm?

By your comment "then make an ISO" I assume you mean rip the DVD as normal and burn to the 4.3 limit - I am a newby to this!

Thanks for the help.

Some players have problems reading DVDR if you burn to the edge(4464MB).
When buying a spindle of cheap media(or high quality) you can sometimes get one or more bad discs,by "bad" I mean the the organic layer is damaged.
In DVDShrink you have two choices when outputting:make an ISO file(if you have Nero installed) or DVD files. Some players prefer a DVDR burned with an ISO file.
BTW...have you tried DVD+R with the "DVD-ROM" booktype?

I have not tried the DVD+R with the DVD ROM book type - - What do you mean by this? All the discs I use are DVD-R type. I thought Ritek were a good product to use?

With regard to the ISO I will look at my settings tonight and have a bash at a diff way.

Reduced the size to a amx 4.3gb and tried burning the ISO option with DVD Shrink. - Probelm - the dvd player does not recognise the files on the burnt DVD! Tried twice but with the same outcome each time - message comes up on screen " unkown disc".

Any sugestions?
