PAL TO NTSC

I have this problem of PAL recorded DVD's coz it doesnt match with the color system of my TV. The DVD player has no problem in playing NTSC or DVD recorded material since its auto detect and could play both format. But the problem is it could not be displayed properly by my TV. It keeps on scrolling and its in black and white. The sound has no problem.

My query is "is there any FREE downloadable software that could convert the file format from PAL to NTSC before I burn for another copy into a blank DVD?

Thanks in advance for any information....

There really is no easy way to do this.

You have two options that I'm aware of.

1. If you have Nero: rip the dvd to the hard drive, use one of the many free MPG encoders to re-encode the entire dvd, then use Nero Vision to convert said MPG back to a dvd. Downsides: major time investment, and quality loss.

2. Go to wal-mart, pick up a $40 DVD player that can do PAL & NTSC.

Option 2 is what I'd recommend. Most of the newer DVD players seem to be able to properly playback PAL.

On thinking about this somemore....does your computer have TV-out? If so, you could play it on the PC and pipe it to the tv...

Sir, re: option#2, there's no problem with my DVD player (Pioneer) since it could play PAL & NTSC recordings. The problem is the TV would not accept PAL colour system since its NOT a multi-color system TV where you can select PAL & NTSC. Its fixed to NTSC 3.58 MHz. So even when you play it on a different player the result would still be the same.

Actually, I have a $36 CyberHome DVD player from which it has no problem playing both NTSC & PAL recordings but still the reception on my TV is the same as with my Pioneer DVD player.

Many (all?) Cyberhome units can do the PAL-NTSC conversion. What unit it is? Please check your Cyberhome's setup menus for "TV SYSTEM" or the like. It is probably set to AUTO (meaning it will output PAL on a PAL DVD, NTSC on an NTSC DVD) -- set it to NTSC and see if it will play back correctly.

And I think Monsterman understood the situation. You just need a DVD player that is capable of both playing PAL DVDs AND converting to an NTSC signal, which is sorta rare in the US but absolutely not hard to find (and it sounds like you may already have the solution in your home).

What he said :)

Just poke around in your DVD players setup; see if it helps.

And why on earth does Firefox think "DVD" is misspelled?!? #-o

dodec, Firefox 2 RC1/2 has built-in spell checking. The 2.0 release is gonna rock 8)

But I still find myself in Opera most of the time....long live mouse gestures!

As far as I know, Firefox doesn't have gestures. There may be a plugin, though.

I like Opera, though...it's faster the Firefox & IE both...
