sample rate and bit depth question

hi
a friend of mine i should set the sample rate at 96000 and the bit depth at 24 bits...what does this do for the recording
process?i tried it and it didnt work..

Your sound card has to support it. I've always just used 44100 Hz and 16-bit, same as Compact Disc. It makes sense to use a higher resolution if you are going to do a lot of editing but you will still have to convert it to 44,100Hz 16-bit if you make an audio CD.

It is configured in the software when you record. What recording software are you using?

magix..which me to ask a question..this software magix is getting harder to find..amazon doesnt have much of itand alot of stores dont carry it anymore either..does this mean they are closing shop?i managed to config it..thanks..

hi ok ..but what do these setting do for the sound quaility of the record?my friemd says it makes the cleaning process alot better..is this true?
