The first generation HD players will NOT have managed copy so these players will be obsolete when the next generation come out.Managed Copy allows you to save and transfer HD video on a PC and over a home network. These first generation players remind me of the first generation HDTV's because they didn't have HDMI connectors which are required for HDCP protected video.
Anybody still have a first generation DVD player in use(ie Circuit City DIVX)?

Yeah, I wouldn't buy a first gen player either. I have yet to hear if any of them are going to be upgradable to support the final AACS specs and things like managed copy.

That wasn't a first gen DVD player. DIVX were movies encoded on to CDs with the Divx codec. The Pay-Per-Play strategy the DIVX and Circuit City fokes implemented for that POS doomed the crappy tech in about 3 months out in retail.

As for next gen "Managed Copy", I say screw that. I will not be completely satisfied until a program comes out that lets me strip away the digital bondage that AACS encompasses and let me freakin' back up THE STUFF I BOUGHT AND OWN! God speed for teh hax!
