Why's this called Next Generation DVD?

i would think it could be called Blu-Ray & HD DVD
or HD Media / Burners

either way i can't wait till i can afford one of these format burners and be able to hand out the media like DVD-Rs

I have to agree... when Holographic media comes out, it'll be stuck in here too, along with stuff that will no longer be considered "next gen" technology.... and then later when Holographic media is no longer the new thing, whatever comes NEXT will be stuck in here. This forum will get awefully crowded in the next 5-10 years!! :o

i can't wait till we are "burning" on data cubes that fit couple 100 terrabytes

Hrm... I would think technology like that would ruin your "business". We're starting to move into the "less quantity, more reusablility and large volume" era for media. I could see a point in time where we DO have 100 TB data cubes, and they're naturally re-writable, and every person only has/needs like 5-10 of them.
