Imation Video Shows How HD DVD And Blu-ray Media Is Made

Imation has released a new video called "Imation: Into The Blue." The video gives a short tour of their manufacturing facility in Minnesota and has a few clips showing how the media is manufactured.

Be sure to download the podcast... it contains much more actual manufacturing footage than the stream that plays automatically.

Hrm, Quicktime is refusing to play it.... any ideas?

Quicktime played it for me. I had to manually open it though. The extension wasn't recognized.

mine downloaded as a .mov.... I'll try again.
Ok, when I downloaded it as a .m4v it worked on Quicktime. The difference was I didn't right click and "save as" the second time. I don't know why it made a difference though.
Very nice video! Reminds me of when I got to tour a DVD replication facility. There is nothing cooler then watching the disc spin when they're being coated!
Did anyone else catch the part where they said they had 5 machines that could manufacture HDDVD or BluRay? I was under the impression they were too different for this to be possible with a single machine!

Sounds interesting! How big are these files? 10 MiB? 100 MiB? Is Quicktime required (I don't have it installed at present).

About 70MB for the podcast, and I think you need Quicktime.

I have QuickTime installed and it plays this podcast, but at least on my system this podcast also plays in Windows Media Player 10 and in Nero ShowTime 2.0.1.9 (Nero 6.6).

Well, I can't use WMP10 on my home PC, and I don't think my work PC has been upgraded to that point yet.

You allready said it yourself. To different for a single machine.
A machine is a machine not a process line so at least 5 machines are the same and one is different.
