As part of our commitment to provide world-class service to our customers, Toshiba is supplying this firmware update for use by purchasers of Toshiba HD DVD Player models HD-XA2, HD-A2, HD-A2W, and HD-D2. This firmware update addresses certain disc playback and HDMI/DVI related problems identified by Toshiba.

Take not that both address certain disc playback problems. I'm guessing this is due to issues with Universal's combo discs.

A quick response from Microsoft AND Toshiba? I'm amazed. It seems like it is difficult to get Toshiba to take action on anything quickly. Maybe they will reverse the trend...

I wonder if this fixes all of the problems? From the info posted on the front page, it sounds like it would be difficult to fix 100% of the potential problems caused by the authoring issues existing in the format.

Yeah, IF it is an authoring format compliance problem, then some of the discs could still have issues playing back. IF it was a compatibility issue between players and possible authoring formats, then maybe all of the playback issues will be resolved...
