HD DVD group shrugs off Blockbuster announcement

Graffeo pointed out that rental counted for less than one percent of its revenue and brushed it off as an insignificant event in the format war.

Here's another interesting claim
Graffeo claimed that only 30 percent of PS3s in the US are connected to an HDTV.

I noticed that report also. I wonder where he got that PS3 statistic?

As for shrugging off the Blockbuster news, it's 100% true that it's not as big of a deal as it is being made out to be. But that doesn't mean that if enough news agencies carry it and blast in the average consumer's face enough times, that it won't become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The perception of the news is more important then the news itself really, and the perception is being blown well out of proportion.

I'm not saying it's a good thing, but that's the way it is.

I think it is really bad news for HD DVD, but either way they look at it, they pretty much have to publicly announce that they believe it isn't a big deal, even if they think it is.

With the millions of movie fans renting at Blockbuster around the nation, and only Blu-ray appearing in most stores, it will further promote Blu-ray and make it seem as though it is the "winning" format.
