It's an LG GGW-H20L. I'm not sure why they're saying it writes to BD-R media at only 4x though.

The PX-B300SA is an LG GGC-H20L.

My friend with the GGW-H20L is reporting he's having trouble burning many 4x rated media at anything except 2x.

So much for 6x burning (at of this time)...

Really? I've had no problems burning at 6x, even with Verbatim's 2x BD-R media.

CORRECTION (I'm getting too old...):

He can only burn RE-discs (2x certified) at 1x (Maxwell, Verbatim, Philips).

Burning -R discs is still way too expensive, hence RE discs :)

He probably has verification enabled.

Sorry if I dig our an old theat, but I have a burning question (pun intended ) at hand...

I presently would like to replace ym Samsung 203L-DVD-Burner with a drive capable of Blu-Ray-Burning.

I am looking for a drive that does everything, though, including Lightscribe, DVD-RAM and: Bitsetting!

So does this Plextor allow bitsetting on *ALL* DVD media??

Or is it unlikely since it is simply a re-labeled LG?

Or is the LG capable of bitsetting on all media with a modified firmware?

If its like the LG, it does bitsetting on DVD+R and DVD+R DL. I haven't heard of any modified firmware.

If you can live without HD DVD, LG has a number of Blu-ray only drives that are A LOT more affordable than the Plextor.
