Are my drives riplocked? WH14NS40, BDR-207D

I use AnyDVD to make Blu-Ray ISO files and it seems like many times my BDR-207D would get stuck at 2x or 8.5MBs or so but I can just run it again and see the speed jump up to 16MBs at the start of the disc and then up to almost 30MBs. I then got a WH14NS40 drive and see the same kind of issue.
If they are riplocked then why will stopping and restarting the rip fix it?
What was the last fastest drive that can have the riplock removed?

Hmm.. I didn't think the newer LG's had a rip lock. Starting and stopping usually doesn't fix this sort of thing as the speed is limited in the firmware. You would need to find a hacked firmware that removed it.

It’s an odd issue and some others on the SlySoft forum have had the same issue but SlySoft says it’s not them and restarting the rip must circumvent the riplock. But like you say, I read up on both these drive before buying and found folks saying they had no riplock. ???

Usually, drives have a mode for ripping/reading and one for playing. When playing, they usually default at something like 2x. Just a theory.. but when AnyDVD unlocks the disc and prepares to rip it, its remaining in this playback mode. You could try using a program like Nero DriveSpeed to override this and make the drive always read at the max. It's been a few years since I've used AnyDVD, but is there an option to select what speed you read at?
