I want to believe you and maybe buy a couple DVD-R blanks just to try out your failure. But nah, I got a bunch of Fuji and TDK DVD+R here that are working just fine w/ all the hardware (Sony set tops, Pioneer 105, lite-on 163D, 166S) I throw them in, so yay for me, and too freaking bad for people who bought a shit load of DVD-R.

Man, it's a good thing I stopped flashing my optorite f/w after 2.11. You know what they say, if it's working, don't fscking mess w/ it.

i found a miracle!

after so many struggles and tryings, i almost utterly surrender to Optorite dd0203. i got a pile of dvd-r 2x which are lying there coz no matter how i burn i got unreadable dvd-r. i tried diff burning programs: Nero 60015, RecordNow, Copy2DVD. all to no avail.my Pioneer slot-in 106S and my newly-bought LG8161B can't read the dvd-r at all!

i really got the impulse of disposing all those useless dvd-r.but it is a wasteful act. then i told myself: why not trying until u get something. so i reread the threads again. there is this guy who claimed his Toshiba M1712 dun read the dvd-r until he chose the multisession in his RecordNow.

so this gives me a clue. i tried Nero latest 60015. i burnt 1GB data( 4 DIVX, each ard 350MB,tv series).

firstly i chose MULTISESSION,as normally what i m doing all the time.; the DVD-r rendered unreadable in my LG8161B and Pioneer 106S.

i tried MULTISESSION ( Nero warned me that 'some dvdroms may have problems reading multisession disc do you wan 2 proceed. 2 options given.")

i proceeded with MULTISESSION.

Guess what?? The miracle happened! the rendered DVD-r successfully autodetect when i inserted it in!Both pioneer 106s & LG8161B read the content infallibly.

dun u think it is so funny? what i think ironical is that part when Nero warned that Multisession Disc may not be recognised in some dvdroms.

but my encounter now contradicts that completely.

from this observations i guess Optorite is wrong somewhere in handling the multisession thing??? i just hope this can be fixed. but for the time being, if u r like me who gets so many dvd-r and depressed because Optorite renders them unreadable in DVDROMs, you should try out the MULTISESSION BURNING. it is a miracle, at least, to me!

so now i can keep all my dvd-r already. haha

I just got the Optorite DD0201 FW2.17, burnt 2 DVDs already. Both are good. One with DVDshinks/Nero6 combo, and the other one with DVD X Copy Exp. Both were on Memorex dvd-r 4x, but I could only burn them at 2x. The one burnt with Nero6 have no problem playing in my 6x DVD-rom and my old RCA dvd player. The one burnt with DVDXCopy read fine with DVD-Rom but played like a broken record on the RCA. I will try other softwares soon.

Tried the CloneDVD this evening, another good dvd. It was able to play on the 6X DVD-Rom, no problem with the old RCA player either. Regarding the DVD burnt by the DVD X Copy Exp. the disc was able to play on my Uncle's Sony DVD player without any problem. So I think it is just my old RCA player. So far so good, 3 DVDs and all works. Overall, great burner except for the fact that it is really pickey about the brand of media. Hopefully, the next firmware will fix that.

Just installed this drive and updated to the latest firmware 2.16. First thoughts, it's very loud when reading/burning cdrs, just loud when dealing with dvd+rs. Yes, the eject button isn't very easy to use.

I tried a hd burn, 1.35 gigabytes worth of data on a fuji cdr made in japan using nero6 hdburn iso mode. It worked, but when I put the disc back in the optorite it's blank in explorer. What went wrong?

edit - this is the media that produced a blank hdburn disc

Format Capacity Not Formatted
Free Blocks 736966656
Free Capacity 702.83MB(736.97MB)
Media Type CD-R
ATIP Start Time of Lead In (Media Code) 97m24s 1f
ATIP Last Possible Start Time of Lead Out 79m59s72f
Manufacturer Name Taiyo Yuden Company Limited
HD-BURN Certified YES

Edit again- Looks like nero 6 was to blame for the blank hdburn discs. The last build of nero 5 just produced a working disc.

can someone please give me some ideas on what I should use to burn some DVDs with this writer?

I've tried DVD Shrink and it does its job but I'm still kinda iffy on what to do after that with Clone DVD. the DVD Shrink makes the IFO file, right? if so, what do I do with Clone DVD to burn the image?

any help will be appreciated.

I also have the 0203 and I'm trying to use Memorex DVD+R media and I havent had much luck lately.
