I was wondering if anyone had bought the Fuji DVD-R media Best Buy is advertising this week? If so, who makes the media? I know their +R media tends to be Ritek, but I am curious who is behind their -R media, and if it's a good deal. (50 discs for $69 -- wouldn't be a bad price if it's a decent brand)

A friend of mine picked them up last week. They were Ricoh discs.

are u sure you picked up the -R? The +R will be RICOHJPN(RITEK). DVDhelp.com media reviews say the FUJI -R media code are Taiyo Yuden 2x. I'll wait for a positive answer before picking these up.

Agreed, I'm not sure that Ricoh even makes -R media. I'm pretty sure that the 50 pack spindle is Ritek G03 2X media if the spindle says "made in Tawain". If it says "made in Japan", then it is Taiyo Yuden media but not sure if it is 2X or 4X.

I'd think it was a good deal either way but I'll buy several spindles if it is the 4X Taiyo Yuden media.

Whoops, yeah... the 2.4x Fuji DVD+R's were Ricoh's.

I just walked down during lunch to BB and they only had Made in Taiwan DVD-R spindles.. strangely, the boxed DVD-R's were Made In Japan (10 for $25). Are they definitely Riteks? The spindle looked like the type CMC uses for CDRs.. (even worse!)

Too bad no made in Japan discs, although that's probably why they're so cheap this week.

If it says "made in Japan" it is 100% TY. If it says "made in Taiwan" it should be Ritek G03 media. I've seen no reports anywhere that Fuji uses CMC or ProDisk (Princo) as a supplier.

I'm going to pick up a spindle tonight and will report back with the media ID.

UPDATE: I picked up the 50 pack spindle of Fuji DVD-R at Best Buy. They are Ritek G03 blanks and should burn with no problems at 2X on most burners. I saw the 10 pack Fuji DVD-R that say "up to 4X" on the packaging and they are made in Japan. Hopefully, it won't be long before TY 4X is what Fuji uses in all their DVD-R retail packs 8)
