People in the US have received 8X Philips media under the "Teon" brand.

And you CAN get Taiyo Yuden retail in the US.
All you need to do is search for 50 packs of Samsung 4X DVD+R, which is the 4X certified TY.
www.newegg.com has an awesome sale on these right now. 37.99 for 50 TY.

Online != retail. I have never seen Samsung DVD+Rs in any brick and mortar store I've been in (Best Buy, Office Depot, Office Max, CompUSA, etc). Taiyo Yuden is very rare on store shelves; the only brands that are commonly in US stores that use TY media are Fujifilm and Panasonic (5 and 10 packs), and Maxell (randomly available in 5, 10, 25, 50 disc packs).

TY 4x DVD+R OEM, just released in South Korea. Fusion monopolizes South Korean market of TY media. Initial price of about US$0.7 or less.

Thanks Wesociety.

I knew about the Samsung Dvd+r, but that's not at retail. When I said at retail, I meant at a store like Best Buy.

I heard about the Teon thing where people got Philips media. I bought some and it was Cmc media.

I want to buy some Philips 8x media and be guarenteed it's Philips 8x media.

Is that 8x +r or -r? I bought a 10 pack of 8x dvd+r from Newegg and they were made in Taiwan. They were Ricoh R02 8x media.

I haven't tried them, but from the posts, I assume that those are TY???

Gather some people in your area to buy some 8x T02 media at near-OEM prices. That way, you can order 100,000 discs or more at once for about US$0.7 per disk or lower with minimum personal order being about 100 or 200 disks. That's what South Korean hardware enthusiasts always do and what made FTTH and VDSL cheaper than PSTN and ADSL.
