So Pioneer A08 and NEC 3500, worst the investissement for... how many months ? weeks ?

DVD-DL spec is no where near final and they are busy with next generation blue ray. So don't expect it any time soon.

True, I don't see any DVD-R DL working group... neither DVD-RW DL...

Pioneer will very likely release the Pioneer DVR-109 before the end of year, maybe even sooner. They already have promised support from one big name DVD manufacturer for DVD-R9 media.

You won't find DVD-R9 on any DVD forum work group info, since they don't officially support it yet, due to complaints from Hollywood.

I'll be straight with you. If you already own an 8x DVD writer, don't get a 16x drive yet. For the next few months its going to be nearly impossible to find media that works at 16x, let alone 12x. The 108 writes to very few discs at 16x and the NEC even less.

I agree. And the time savings is minimal anyway on these "16x" drives over the 8x drives. So far, the Pioneer seems to write at 16x for only a very small portion of the disc. Not worth the money right now.

Good point. This is one huge benefit of both drives.
