How to determine max DVD write speed

I just installed my new NEC 2510 and flased it with Herrie's 2.16 firmware. The only media I have right now is the free Newegg media, RITEKG04. When I insert the disc and open Nero it shows the max write speed as 4X. That's fine, I assume that is the max write speed for the media. I eject the DVD-R and Nero only shows the max CD-R write speed of 32X. I select new compilation hit the Burn tab and it shows Maximum, 2.4x, and 1x.

I've tried using DVDInfo and Nero Info Tool and neither show a DVD write speed of 8x. Is there a way I can make sure this drive is able to write at 8x. I will be getting some more media later this week Thursday/Friday.

I can tell you right now that it can write at 8x if you give it the proper media. You could use one of Herrie's hacked firmwares to see if he has oversped the type of media that you have to 8x.

I thought that his hacked 2.16 firmware would already have overspeed in it?

It shouldn't matter as the 4x RiDATA I purchased from newegg is reported as being 8x with a NEC 2500A. I can live with five 4x DVD-Rs.

I don't think that that version had all of the media hacks in it...

I haven't seen an overspeed firmware for this drive.

The fastest I can write with this Ridata is 6x oh well.
