Keep in mind that the Plextor PX-712A can be had for under a $100 after rebate so it no longer qualifies as an "overpriced" drive as so many people keep saying!

BTW, the 712A is the best reader/writer that I have owned thus far!

Okay... depending on what media you use, I can sort of understand how some people might consider the PX-712a a good burner... but you can't seriously consider it a good reader can you?!?! It's almost as picky as my old POS Pioneer 105S slot load DVD-ROM drive :o (mind you, nothing is THAT picky!). Still, out of 5 DVD burners, it reads the LEAST amount of discs I pop into it!

Of course, this is actually one of the ONLY things I *LIKE* about this drive really  This fact makes it an exellent testing device since I know just about ANYTHING will be able to read the disc if the PX-712a can :D

I change my vote to the ND-3500. Awesome burner, awesome reader, and when Herrie is finished with it, it'll leave the Pioneer in the dust.

NEC 3500, Pioneer 108 and Benq 16x0, each of these drives costs under $95 without any rebate. It was Plextor's exceptionally long warranty duration with excellent service which made their drives very reasonably priced in the past. Plextor drives became overpriced ever since they changed warranty duration to just one year and cut down service quality.

NEC 2500 here also, kicks my crap 811 to the curb and burns more media faster with quality then my Sony 500a that refused to burn most media faster then double speed.
I also have a BenQ 1600-1620 and its a good reader and burns plus media about as good as the 2500 but the mlnus support is still a bit weak. It is very fast with 8x media that it can over clock.

My 712A still burns faster than the 3500A and the 108 on both 4X and 8X media so I'm looking forward to Plextor's next model.

That's strange Dolph since it is my BEST reader out of all the burners that I have and currently use, so much that I purchased a second one!
