Out of curiosity, has anyone heard anything about anyone beginning manufacturing/R&D on this media? Or perhaps a better question would be if anyone knows of any drives that support this media type being announced? or maybe just in the works?

I'm very interested to see where this is going

I think they're trying to bump DVD+RW writing speeds up to 8x first. After that.. who knows.

What can I say... information is there to be shared!

sadly, somethings still have to stay in the dark for a while. I'm hoping I won't get in trouble for the above comments as it is.

Quite to the contrary I have a Sony DRU-700A dual layer burner in my system as we speak. The media is quite spendy at this point but meanwhile it also burns 8X single layer media. :)

I normally throw money at new technology such as the first Sony single layer burners that were going for $369.00 at the time. :( I guess it is a character flaw. :)

It suddenly dawned on me that the discussion was mainly about media so I ordered some Ritek dual layer media from Meritline. I will let you know how it works out.

Another thought I had along these line is burning software. They gave me that DVD Creator software but I have never had much luck with that stuff. Record Now Max sees the drive and will burn single layer media on it but I doubt it will burn dual layer media. I think they may have also given me a copy of Nero that will burn dual layer. I have not had any land shaking succeses with Nero but I have had it work from time to time. My standby has always been Record Now Max.

Any thoughts on this? ....................
