Fake or B-grade RitekG04's?

I recently bought Ritek DVD-R 50 pack in red shrink wrap.
So did my friend, who bought the same type but from a different location.
Now his are the pearl (like writable) top, like mine, but his hub is frosted.
Mine isn't, and have slight blemishes around the hub that vary for every disc.
Both hubs have the Ridata logo, and both have the same info from Alcohol 120.
So is it possible that Ritek/ridata DVD's might have fakes or B-grade batches?? Or am I just unlucky that mine are defective??

Ritek's quality control is very bad these days, so yes, you probably have some 'B' grade EQUIVILANT discs in there. This is going to become more common unfortunatly, not just in Ritek, but in other brands as well.
Why? Because I can buy 50 4x DVD-Rs for $12.99 (That's Canadian) at a little computer shop in Ontario. Big companies need to compete too, and they are doing everything they can to hold on to their market.
Even Taiyo Yuden and Mitsubishi are starting to have variable quality... although no where NEAR the kind Ritek suffers from currently!

Yeah, I tried getting some of those crap 12.99 50-pack DVD-R's in Toronto. They're crap, rated 4x but I can only burn at 2x with LG-4082, and the last 25% of the disc is always unreadable.
But I was assuming that Ritek discs (.70 cents versus .30 cents) would have better quality appearance wise. Like they still burn fine and are 100% readable, yet they give the impression that they're crap.
If anyone wants me to post the store (don't know if I'm allowed) or even the media code and such, I can.

I went through a HORRID 50 pack of 4x G04 Ritek DVD-R. My Lord, the error/failure graphs were through the roof and anything past the 4.1gb mark was essentially corrupted. I was so pissed off. This Ritek 4x DVD+R I have right now (Ricoh) is excellent (at $0.44 a piece no less), some of the best media I have used. I don't get Ritek... they had a strangle hold on the industry, and now this? Too bad 99% of DVD/CD-Burner owners don't know/care about disk quality :/

warnings about crap are always useful!
I have very little faith in Ritek these days. I'll stick with Taiyo Yuden and Optodisc for my needs from now on
(Optodisc only should be used on drives that support it.... Plextor drives do NOT support it!

It's really funny actually... Plextor knows EXACTLY what they're doing!
As soon as Optodisc's 4x DVD-RWs were officially certified by Pioneer's labs, Plextor fixed it so that the media would burn without failing

So are you saying that Plextor is playing favorites?
If so, what other media falls into that class?
