i just bought khypermedia 8x hoping to get BENQ 800A like i did the first time but ended up geting Cyberdrive DX082D instead. i know that there is a new firmware that has dvd-r support for free but i do not know how good the drive is. i haven't used it yet but i don't want to use it until i know for sure it's a good drive. it would be easier to take it back if i still had it sealed.
u will know what u have if you see this written on the box
made in china or made in malaysia
china= CYBERDRIVE
malaysia= BENQ

The Cyberdrive actually has excellent quality burning on many types of DVD+R. :D

And from what I've heard it's pretty good at burning DVD-R/RW for a converted single format burner.

I have heard otherwise but not everyone use same media and gets same results.
BTW 3 ways to tell if KHypermedia has a benq. from what I have been able to tell is.
comes with recordnow software not nero
has 12x read speed instead of 8x
and is made in malaysia not in china
