I am about to sell my drive and want to advertise 8X -R capability, if this is the case.
It seems to support 8X burning to DVD-R, according to one thread I found on another site, but I wanted some confirmation from the guys here.

Thanks guys!

First sentance of the main body of the page: "With the DW822A, BenQ proudly introduces a true dual format drive that supports both +R/RW and –R/RW format."

Right below that you can see the specs:
"DVD+RW Speed - 8X Writing, 4X Rewriting, 12X Reading
DVD-RW Speed - 4X Writing, 2X Rewriting, 12X Reading"

I did know the specs of my drive and also do know how to google ;)

In my title I asked if it could be upgraded with firmware B3HC to support 8X -R, as one of the threads in cdfreaks seems to imply.
(Maybe I should have repeated it in the body of my post).

To be safe, since the Benq Europe site says nothing about the firmware contents, and since I didn't find many posts with people's experiences (probably due to the lack of 8X -R media at the time), I wanted to double check with some folks here.

8x DVD-R for Benq 822!!

B3EC added support for "8x DVD-R writing (TAIYO YUDEN, Maxell & Ritek 8x DVD-R media)" and I doubt that they removed this capablity in the following updates.

Excellent thanks for the confirmation! I'll check through the thread
as soon as I get off the phone to see what people thought of the upgrade and performance overall with it, not just 8X -R.

This will hopefully add a few bucks to the price I get at auction. :)
