Yes the Cyberdrive and this Optorite seem to have identical front bezels. That makes you wonder who is really developing these drives? Or do Philips just help them with the R&D?

BTW Ian, I think you mean Philips chipset on the front page, not Mediatek

That the DD1601 would use Philips chipset was already hinted at Cebit.

No more Sanyo chipset = no more HD-burn

I realize that most people think it's worthless, but I think it's a cool feature. :-^

Hm, but who made this drives now? I can´t believe that Cyberdrive do it, because they had only one DVD-writer and I believe their old website was updated in a period at the last half year, the german/european-page was not updated in the last 1 year.

I´m not the biggest fan of Optorite-drives because the drives have a real bad writing-quality when they come on the market, but I don´t hope that they stop maing their own drives. The world is full enough of rebadged drives.

I talked to my OptoRite contact and he was able to verify that the 1603 is for real, but didn't know much else.

The way it sounds, the 1601 is an interim drive and the 1603 will be their flagship once its ready.

Any news at this drive?

The Opto seems to be a Cyberdrive, but the Cyberdrive have other specifications like 16x DVD-R (Opto 8x)
