Anyone has a test unit and any test results yet?

Nope. I'd expect AV Watch to have some soon. I probably won't get mine until the 15th or shortly before.

And we already have a confirmed coaster from the PX-716a... what a surprise!

Oh wow, a coaster, clearly this drive sucks and should not be marketed, as it made a coaster.

It's little too early to tell quality of it, but I think it's enough to show that Plextor doesn't do some internal testing before sending out to programmers, reviewers, third party beta testers, etc.

They better at least send some drives to Ahead since Nero is bundled with them in Europe.

I wish Roxio was as good as Ahead. Their support for stuff like VariRec isn't nearly as good.

I'm still a little bitter over the very poor media support that the PX-712a had for so long... but as it sounds, the PX-712a could do the job where the PX-716a couldn't... so that is actually hopeful.

quit complaining. the drive isn't officially out yet.
and there's no drive on the planet that doesn't make a coaster sometimes.

I feel a little put-off myself. The stuf on the 716 sounds really advanced but as a local tv progam asks, "Does it work?"

I think the 716 should justly face a closer look before I spend my money on my 2nd Plextor drive.

Ian, I shouldn't try and put work on someone elses plate but this would be a good drive come review time to get some real diversity and comprehensiveness as far as different media tested with the drive.

Actually it may not be difficult to have 1 expandable test section for future media tests.

If it's solid on medium media I'll be going for the UF version.

That'll also either show me faster than 6x burns or isolate my throughput from my laptop to either the cardbus or the laptop.

I can't wait to read reviews.

This may be my Christmas drive.
