We all love a good rumour don't we

Ok, so as the front page says, some people have been circulating rumours about Optodisc making DVDRs with Maxell MID code. Now this is a funny rumour in general, since it is quite well known that Optodisc is already using Taiyo Yuden's code for their 8x DVD-R media, and they wouldn't gain anything (other then more companies getting ticked off at them) by using another manufacturer's code. But anyways, I called up Optodisc and got some answers.

Optodisc is not using Maxell's MID code on any of their DVDR/RW media, and never have. Previously they had been using Maxell made stampers to make their media, but this media always carried the OPTODISC MID code.

Other sources have said that the only media Optodisc has ever made with a Maxell code is DVD-RAM media, which I have not been able to confirm with either Maxell or Optodisc directly, but it wouldn't surprise me.

It wouldn't surprise me if this rumour started with someone mis-understanding about Optodisc's use of the Maxell made stamper.
