Enjoy!

I recently sold my DW822A, so I won't get to try it.
The media is still too pricey anyway...

from what I've heard, you can either have DVD+R9 writing, or DVD-R/RW writing, but there isn't one firmware that does both yet... I could be mis-inturpretting though.

No, you are correct.
They are claiming that the eeprom can't hold enough data for all 3 functions...Bullshit I say.
They made the claim to sell drives and now they aren't delivering.

Due to an EPROM space limitation, the Double Layer writing codes cannot currently be fully integrated with the existing firmware’s DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW codes, and so a separate second firmware version has had to be created. The downloadable “switch tool”, by using two separate firmware versions, allows users to switch the drives writing format between either DVD+R/RW and DVD+R Double Layer, or DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW. The switch between the two writing format options can be performed as many times as desired. A single firmware version integrating DVD+R Double Layer, DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW is still currently under development, and will be made available at a later date. Until such time as the single firmware solution is released, we hope that the currently available “switch tool” meets all your requirements and does not prove too inconvenient to use.

Someone has tried it on dual layer (both 800@822 and a 822) and got good scans (over at CDFreaks).
