NEC To Enter US Market With ND-3500A

Good news for those of us in the States. You'll finally be able to buy a retail ND-3500A directly from NEC.

On October 25, 2004 NEC Solutions America will enter the consumer hardware market in the US with the introduction of the new ND-3500A, a 16X DVD double layer drive that features the highest performance combined with the leading market price of $99.95. The ND-3500A ensures users will no longer have to compromise the quality of video and photos by offering significantly faster recording speeds.

It's definitely about time they started selling their own drives here in the US. At $99.95, the ND-3500A is going to be stealing a lot of sales from Pioneer whose retail drive is still priced at $150+

Are you aware that the DW800A has new disk quality reporting features with the latest CD-DVD Speed... PIF reporting and 4x,8x scans.

Does the rest of the world where NEC does have retail drives get firmware updates?
I don't see why this will change anything.

I'd actually guess that the Japanese would be better at nagging. The US is usually not on the cutting-edge while the Japanese seem to be obsessed with the latest-and-greatest new gadgets, so it'd seem that they'd be a bit more whiny if their latest-and-greatest toy was not as great as they'd hoped. While most US customers would be like "hey, honey, the movie is playing now! yay, it works!" :lol:
