Made it during the last 3 days on my own. I always wanted a logarithmic scale on the plextools scans, and as plextor appearently is too lazy, I played a but with Bushound and did some coding... now i have my own PIE/PIF - Scanner for that drive :)

Unfortunately, I cannot yet scan for POFs. I only know how to do PIE and PIF ... reading bushound logs can be a real mess

here it is

Apparently, writing to G05 at 8x is in the cards for the 120B... at least according to ritek: Image

I hope this gets addressed in the next update :-?

Not in the table you posted. And it is already addressed: the write quality does not work out, so it is limited to 4x. Look into the C'T 21/04 to see how one drive after another kills those crap discs at 8x... i guess i'll have to waste some money on crap discs to demonstate why LG is doing the right thing to make even you finally realize that you don't WANT them to be written at 8x

EDIT spelling

What do you mean not in that table? Do you need me to circle it for you? If the fricken' Pioneer 108 can burn G05 fine at 8x, I have no doubt in my mind that the wizards at LG can do the same via firmware optimization. Jeeze, have some optimism...

The table says that LG 4082B can write them at 8x, but not the LG 4120B.

You see, this one is wrong.
Just get better media!

Yeah, they could, if they had some time to waste

Another reason why Ritek G05 media is so poorly supported is because Ritek revised the media specs time and time again, even after the media was released to the retail public! So many drive makers became frustrated with having to spend weeks re-calibrating their drives for the altered specs. Personally, I don't blame them!

It's like coming to a frame shop with a picture, and asking them to make a frame for it. Then, one week later when they have built you this nice frame, you come back with the picture, but you've cut 2 inches off of the bottom of it, because you didn't like the shoes the person in the picture was wearing. So they spend another week modifying the frame, and when you come back again, you've cut half an inch off of the left side of the picture, because it didn't seem centered correctly.... It just gets annoying and tedious after a while!

Another example is the Ritek G06 DVD-R. It was originally an 8x DVD-R, which was to replace the G05. Now it seems like it might be a 12x or 16x DVD-R... but since Ritek KEEPS CHANGING THE SPECS, it's hard to know what it *WILL BE* when they get done playing with it. ....Ritek USA claims the media doesn't even exist even... although some places in Europe actually sold it for a while when it was an 8x disc still.

Also, don't forget Ritek's M02 4x DVD-R which was to replace the Ritek G04. There's another media type that drive makers had to calibrate their drives for... which then spent a month at most being sold in North America, and disappeared, replaced by the G04 that it was supposedly replacing to begin with.

The Pioneer A08, which can burn Ritek G05, can write Verbatim 4x +/-R media at 8x, even without a loss in quality compared to 4x or 6x, and even though the firmware certainly does not contain a proper write strategy for it.

Maybe the Pioneer A08 can burn Ritek G05 media due to superior OPC or due to superior recalibration while burning...?

I don't think I'll ever buy DVD media with Ritek dye ever again, but that doesn't make this opened 100-pack go away any sooner :P

But ebay does.

Today i've wasted 15 euro on 4x and 8x crap media, hoping to get ritek to get some scans of those, but i got fujifilm and optodisc :(
