$30 rebate on PX-716A

There is a $30 rebate on the PX-716A on the Best Buy web site for drives purchased from October 24 to December 31. I assume if you paid $179 for the drive you still have the opportunity to pricematch within 30 days of your purchase.

So they sell it for $30 over MSRP and then offer a mail-in rebate to get it back to MSRP.
Best Buy cracks me up!
Nothing against your valubale post; just against Best Buy's pricing...

It's still $165.11 after tax and rebate for me!!

The only reason that it's tempting is that this drive might not be readily available if it's not released until mid November!

I'll wait and buy mine from a reputable vendor, not a shitty company like Best Buy with very shady business practices.

Whoas! Another business with shady practices! I'll be buying my 716A from Newegg.com! :)

Better update your sig to:
Plextor PX-716A 16X DVD±RW/4X DL (Deader 'n a doornail...)

Had my eye on one today but couldn't get myself to "pull the trigger" cause of all the negative postings...

I got 30 dollars off because i had best buy points and i just went back and they gave me a new receipt so i could get 30 dollars more off.

I paid a total of 133 for it :) Which is what it should be selling at, but i dont have to wait.

Yes, I noticed that too; I had posted in the Hot Deals forum.
Even though I am sure it will be cheaper soon (i.e. Dell), I posted it since it is the best deal currently available and most merchants don't have it in stock yet...

as soon as bb lowered 716a price, two fo three stores near me sold out all 16 drives!! the other store has all 8 drive still somehow.

getting interesting, but i still think it is bit expensive than i would like. oem 716a should be like 70-80usd

Plextor drives are always retail - never OEM - AFAIK.

At least in Germany there are "bulk" versions (129 vs 139 Euros but not yet available). Usually the difference is greater.

No... they're stupider then ever  20k-30k discs per month wasn't enough for them, so I lost my distributorship. They also had the nerve to ask me for info on all the BC computer newspapers so they could round up some more smaller computer store customers in the area (who would NOT be ordering >20k discs per month!). The only *GOOD* thing about Ritek is their generous marketing department... but that doesn't change the fact that I now have to order my Ritek media through a shady middle man, instead of from the shady direct source

There's a new wrinkle on this. The German news site heise reports that Plextor Europe is pushing back the release date by a month because of quality problems. It'll likely be December before it turns up here.
