Hello to all.

I´ve bought a Nec 3500, and recently noticed that when burning with nero 6.3.1.25 I have some variations in the "Buffer Level" and in the "Used Read Buffer", for example the "Used Read Buffer" is full then starts to lower sometimes until zero, then raises again.

I have my HD and DVD reader on the same channel(IDE1) and my Nec 3500 on (IDE2) as master.

Does someone knows why this happens?

P.S.I usually make a direct copy, without copying to the HD, and stiil haven´t tried with nero 6.6.

try defragging the hard drive?

If defragging doesn't help, you can may also want to check in Task Manager to see what else is running in the background while you're burning; there may be a hard drive scanning operation going on etc.

That sounds like the WOPC which checks the burn quality and lowers the burn speed if it finds that the burn starts to degrade.

This happens to me too, but it is at the speed changes. The buffer will empty and then refill, and the speed will start to increase to the next level. I am guessing that this is normal as my discs are coming out great. Do you have the actual burning speed enabled so that you can see what is happening at that moment? I would be interested to see if this is normal.

No BoGMan1a I don´t have the actual burning speed enabled, how do u enable that on nero?
Is it with drive speed?

I was looking for the old threads on how to enable the actual burning speed and then it just resurfaced here. Good luck with it, and I hope everythings normal with your drive.

Tks BoGMan1a, awesome tweak on Nero.

Well burn some dvd´s after implementing that tweak and noticed that the burner often decreases speed, but someone told me that is normal and consequently affects the buffer.

Also tried with Easy DVD Copy with the same result.

And the time to burn a full dvd remains the same, I´m burning at 6x and it takes about 11mn, I believe that´s the normal time for burning at 6x, right?

Oh and one more thing, now that I´ve tried Easy DVD Copy going to stick with it, like it much more than Nero.

I have the same problem. Also its not just this burner. My old LG 4x done the same things and if i remember correct Plextor CDR to.

Now I will try this tweak to to see if the speed drops.

Yep when the speed change happens the buffer drops to 7% and back.

Well the disk written at end 8x isnt really good quality. I mean if I try the speed test the line has a huge spike at end. Only managed to get one good out of 3 right now. Disks are Swisstecs ratted at 8x.

These sort of the problem some times is associated with the writer not being in DMA position. Quick check in Windows\DeviceManager\IDEController\Properties\Resouces" will identify whether the drive is in DMA or PIO or even in Multiword position

There is nothing there only.

But under advanced settings its set to autodetect0. Current transfer mode Ultra DMA mode 2.
And this works only in DMA2 if I have the CDRWs in my primary IDE1 controler. If i put them in secondary they wont go higher then multiword.
