S11 - made in Japan is from SONY tokyo.
It's very good media.
D11 - made in Taiwan is probally made by Daxon.
(leaddata is also a option but sony doesn't seem to give them much deals these days !)
For the daxon media huge quality variations have been spotted . Specially when it comes to the smaller brands/store brands.
The bigger brandnames (read BENQ/SONY) however seem to get better stuff .

DVD_ADDICT wrote::evil: Another coaster so those SONY DVD+R media is going back to COMPUSA, the buffer level in nero burn goes nuts from 10% to 87% while burning with my plextor 708a drive. I've never seen anything like this before. This is the first time I've used SONY DVD+R media and will be the last. Elcheapo COMPUSA Princo media doesn't even have buffer levels like that! In my opinion this SONY DVD+R media sucks!

EDIT: It seems the ide cable to my 708a could be the culprit for the buffer levels going nutz. I'm currently burning another of those SONY DVD+R discs in another pc with the 708A. So the SONY could be given a second chance!

They D11 made in Taiwan burn just fine. If it wasn't for the spike to 30 at 2.25gb it would have been an awsome burn. Either way, at $10 for 25 I'm pretty pleased.

I picked up a 5-pack of these at a local store for 10 Euros. The packaging in Europe seeems to be a bit different from the previously posted pictures, so I scanned the front and back:

and the results of a test burn (with a virgin disc) that is better than most once-only media:

I decided to buy some more DVD+RW 4X media after a few comments I saw on various forums that manufacturers were moving away from it. The best DVD+RW I saw from testing, and the only one made in japan, was the Sony S11. I went to CompUSA this morning and was able to find a 25 pack spindle that was Made in Japan (S11). All the other spindles as well as 5 and 10 pack jewel cases are now made in taiwan (probably RICOHJPNW11) that I found there.

The way you can tell between the spindles besides looking for the country of origin is that the MIJ spindles have a thin white foam spacer at the top that you can see through the plastic top of the spindle. They also don't have Accucore on the disc's surface (although it is on the packaging label).

Sony's online store also has free shipping this month, but who knows what you would get. They list the 25 pack spindles of the DVD+RW, but not show a price or allow you to add it to your cart.

Anyway, if anyone else is interested in good DVD+RW 4X media you might want to check out what your local Sony retailers are stocking before everything moves to made in taiwan.

Just curious- what do you want to do with 25 RW's?

I bought a pack of 5 and have 3 in use to date. I use them for test burns and data transfer, but recycle them very quickly.

I probably don't need 25, but that was the only quantity I could find the discs I was looking for in. I use DVD+RW's to trade video footage back and forth as it is edited for final DVD. They are also used in the DVD Recorder like VCR tapes.

My local Staples have them 5 for $13.95 CDN.

CompUSA just threw them on sale for ~$12 for the 25 packs. I'll have to stop by with my receipt and have it adjusted tomorrow. I saw a couple of the five packs at other stores but they were Made in Taiwan.

If I am not mistaken I saw these discs in compusa yesterday (Nov.13) and they were mad in China unless I might be wrong.

I just stopped by CompUSA on the way home today and had my receipt adjusted to the $12.99 sale price. They were all out of the spindles. My spindle was Made in Japan which is appropriate for the Sony S11 DVD+RW media code.

I'm not sure what DVD+RW discs are made in china.

Not a heck of a lot.... nothing from Sony that I'm aware of. I've never even seen a DVD+RW made in China from any of my sources.
