3500 vs liteon1633 vs Pioneer 108

Ok, I'm personally leaning towards the NEC over the pioneer. However, I'm building a system for my folks so I need a drive thats stable, handles most media (as I'm sure they'll prolly buy the cheap media at office depot) and does quality burns (so they don't bug me when something goes wrong  ) but also comes with some decent oem software since I want to keep costs down. The liteon comes with nero apparently and the NEC with nothing or Roxio. Is roxio any good these days?

TIA

Then this disqualifies the Lite-On. It won't write to 8x +R media at 16x and the writing quality is less than stellar with a number of types.

As far as software bundles go, it depends on whether or not you get a retail or OEM drives. The OEM versions usually get whatever the retailer wants to throw in. The retail version of the NEC does include Nero (here in the US) and the Pioneer some stuff from Ulead.

Interesting. I'll have to look around for the retail version of the NEC then. Thanks.

Hello!

From these 3 drives I recommend the NEC. Or you get an LG GSA 4120/4160, these drives make good burns with many media.

LiteonĀ“s writing quality is low, the Benq make good writing with DVD+R, but very bad with DVD-R

I beg to differ... the BenQ DW1620's writing quality on DVD-Rs is quite good. It's even better now then it was when CDFreaks reviewed it, and CDFreak's reviewed it after it had already improved a great deal from my review.

no benQ

I have the nec3500, lieton 1633s, and benq1620.....luv the benq!

The liteon 1633s has been a major dissappointment....have a liteon 852s@832s and its fine but the 1633s has been a piece of junk for me.

Hmm, the benq looks darn tempting. I picked up a NEC for myself and should have it in a couple of days. Still gonna need to choose one for the folk's system. Shame liteon's drives have gone down hill lately.
