ISO9660 is limited to 8 characters,ISO9660(Joliet) is limited to 64 characters,UDF 1.02 allows 128 characters.DVD-Video must be UDF 1.02 but some burn software use UDF+Joliet(bridge) for backward compatibilty, there's also UDF 1.5 and 2.01 which is used for data(packet writing).
If you want best compatibilty for all PC's use ISO9660(Joliet) for CD's and UDF+Joliet for DVD's.

UDF+Joliet for DVD's

what kind of DVDs are you referring to? data or video?

what i'm interested is: what's best for a data DVD? ISO or UDF+ISO?
does a UDF+ISO type disc contain all the ISO data of a regular ISO type discs?
