Why not consider the BenQ DW1620 as one of your options?

Of your choices, Nec by far, if your aim is writing quality and compatibility. Not even a contest.

LiteOn isn't even in the running for top-3, imho.

how about a pioneer 108 for quality.

Pioneer 108 with latest firmware is not a bad choice either (much better than LiteOn, imho). It does default to lower writing speeds, making it 'safer' in a sense (by measurements).

What is the diference between Pioneer 108D Vs Nec 3500A

nec 3500 burns media faster because of the write strategy it uses. in terms of quality burns the pio is better.
some want speed and quality and they will go with nec 3500 or benq 1620. others will prefer just quality over speed and go with pio 108. pio does burn @12x and @16x but because of its write strategy most of the time it burns slower than other drives. the nec 3500, benq 1620 and the pio 108 oem drive all support bitsetting one way or another.
another drive that is said to be good is the LG 4160. I myself have not seen much about this drive but it does not support bitsetting, incase you need it. the review at cdrinfo did however say it burns with great quality and it also supports dvd-ram if you need that. I believe this drive also uses same write strategy as pio drive which is slower than other drives such as the nec 3500.

Yeah, the 4160B does do good quality writes with most media, but finding media that will work at 16x is not easy. Not to mention, it writes to -R at only 8x.

The NEC is a far better CD burner than the Pioneer. The 3500 can burn CD-R's up to 48x, while the 108's max is 32x. Both are good at DVD burning, though from the results I've seen online, I'd say the NEC has more media compatibility for the moment.

the LG GSA-4160B will probably have bitsetting support in future firmware update.
