I currently have a CD Writer and a DVD player in my computer. I am ready to install the Benq 1620 do everything unit. What advantage is there to keeping either of the other 2 units in the computer?

Depends on what the CD-RW and DVD-ROM are...

The CD-RW is a HiVal 16/10/40 about a year old. The DVD is a 16x about 2 years old. The DVD specs say it is DVD-ROM only. Doesn't list DVD+- R or RW.

Ditch the CD-RW. Your new BenQ burns CD's better than it.

So keeping the DVD might make copying DVDs faster?

If its fast enough, you could do on the fly copies from the DVD-ROM to the BenQ.
