None of the good media at the big stores (Canada)

It's too bad Future Shop and Best Buy only offer medium grade dvd media such as memorex, maxell, benq and vaxoss (I think I got that one right). And Best Buy which does carry the Fuji's only stocks them in the 5 packs... [-X

For the purposes of just copying movies and games does using memorex over TY really make a big diff? When it comes down to it..is the main reason for using TY's the coaster issue?

Cheers

Umm, when did Maxell become medium grade?

And sorry, Futureshop and Bestbuy could care less about media quality.... mainly because there are way more people that want to buy crap, or slightly better then crap, then there are who want to buy good stuff.

And yes, I have spoken with people inside of Futureshop regarding this.... and no I don't mean sales' reps, and store managers

I've used HP +R's (made by CMC) and Memorex (CMC & Ricoh) and Khypermedia (CMC). I've never had a problem with poor media or coasters.

I buy most of my discs from Tigerdirect.ca and will start with www.bestbuy.ca now that the online store is up and running.

Hmm. I could buy a 50pk of Memorex this week for $39.99 on sale from BB.

or a 100 pack of Kyhpermedia (CMC, same as HP discs) for $40.99

I've burned 75 of the Kyhpermedia and 110 of the HP CMC made discs with out a coaster.

There are those who will gladly pay a pemium for high grade discs. I am not one of them. If you want top end media, www.blankmedia.ca is for you. It's even Dolphin friendly I see

Convenience is the issue. And secondly...since so many people talk TY and ask about TY and praise TY there must be some reason why people will choose it over maxell, memorex, benq or Kyhpermedia and makes it worth purchasing over the other stuff.

But oh well...just a small bit o bitching.

Umm, no they don't. Factory Direct almost exclusively sell crap.

As for Tigerdirect.com and their media... all their HP media is grey market, and just in general I'd rather not give them any of business ever... although I did have to order something from them once. ONLY ONCE!

And yes, I do like blankmedia.ca. The owner is a very friendly guy, who works very hard for his customers. I do Q&A over there as well

lol...took a look at factorydirect...they're prices are messed.

Not sure if I'd go with Ritek after all that I've read about them lately not being very reliable. Lot's of no-name discs...lol

Thanks for the tip

I use pretty much exclusivly use Optodisc and Taiyo Yuden media. Optodisc media for all my regular stuff, and Taiyo Yuden for anything important, or anything going to other people. I also trade Taiyo Yuden DVDRs for really hard to find DVDRs that people on the net sometimes offer me

:(

Sorry... I thought the Ritek and HP stuff seemed ok to me..

You know Avatar..the Ritek and HP would most likely fit my needs just fine I would think. It's the influence of reading alot of posts at various forums where people are asking about TY and where to buy them.

Are TY's guaranteed to work on all standalone players? Are they prone to less coasters? Will they be more scratch resistant? Maybe I'll do a little research on that for my own curiousity. I dunno...one thing I do know is they're not easy to find it seems.

You can buy TY DVD-or+R at best buy this week for $19.99 with no rebates. They are Fuji branded..look for "Made in Japan" on the package.

Not in canada you can't I'm pretty sure. Don't think Canada best buy even sells 50 pack Fuji's. I'll double check though.

Don't you guys forget that Maxell can be TY !!
(Can also be Maxell or Ritek manufactured stuff)
Now Maxell's own media and the TY media is very good.
I also trade Taiyo Yuden DVDRs for really hard to find DVDRs that people on the net sometimes offer me

So just find some crappy hongkong weird manufacturer which has cheap ass media with a very weird code and you can swap these for TY. :)

You guys all use tons of media, right? :) Just use blankmedia.ca.

I got 100 8x TY DVD+R, 10 Ritek Ridata 4x DVD+R to play with, 100 52x TY CD-R and 100 Ritek Ridata 48x CD-R last week from them. Cheap, cheap. TY 8x is $0.98 in 100 quantities. The Ritek CDs were only 21.5 cents.

I've been known to trade real TY media for some wacky coded media before yes... but it has to be worth my while, so usually something I'm looking for, or at least have an interest in.

But NCIX.com is selling TY 8x DVD+Rs for $0.94ea in 50pc spindles... why would I want to ship media from Ontario to BC, which is more expensive anyways?

hehe, sorry, I'm not trying to be hard on you! I do support blankmedia.ca quite a bit, and the owner is a real nice guy too. But the fact is, if you are in Western Canada, NCIX.com is the way to go for most situations.

$63.21 for 50 8x DVD+R TY at ncix.com today... I paid $98.00 for 100 at blankmedia.ca.

Ritek DVD+R 4x at ncix.com $59.53 for 50; I bought 10 for $8 and 100 were about $60.

Are their prices higher for me or something? :)

Jim

I definitely was not. Thanks for the tip!

I can live with the price I paid, though. It wasn't much more.

Still, this is good information and I will bookmark the site.
