Here's my suggestion. Use the search function and see what people have said about those drives.

Thanks. There are also a lot of other people in the forum with valid opinions on these drives.

Ian, in your review, will you be comparing this drive to the benq dw1620 with the latest firmware (BP7N) - cdrinfo just revised (today) their review of this drive based on this new firmware. Also, in your review which firmware are you going to use - the latest official firmware and/or the various hacked firmwares that Liggy,TDB, Dee et al have put together at cdfreaks?

I am looking forward to the review.

:D

>> No. Not unless dolph wants to go back and rerun some tests. However, he's probably like me and already working on a new review.

>> Official. I never used hacked firmware in reviews. It does not give an accurate representation of the drive's capabilities.

No idea about the 109. It hasn't even been officially announced. I've heard that the ND-3520 is being sold by some OEM's already in Asia.

THe dvd-r 109 will not be out for next year. (Rumours indicate that a launch at the end of January might be an option.)
If your lucky we get a press release this month. However that one might be moved to january.
From the drives you list The Benq 1620 is the best drive.
However the 16x Philips is not bad to. But don't forget that Benq is most times a bit earlier with firmware updates.

I don't really have the time to do another review of that drive... there are too many other things in the works at this time to re-cover the same hardware. HOWEVER, I could be persuaded to take a look at the BenQ DW1620 Pro I suppose (technically a different model sort of).

It's the same hardware as the BenQ DW1620 pretty much.

This is unbalanced question, except for Ian no one could answer this with honesty unless have possession of all the drive in the market. If I happen to have one brand of drive, how could I be in position to make judgment that which drives is the best when I haven't tried the other brand?

After lots of research....I narrowed it down to the NEC 3500 and the BenQ DW1620. Based on + reviews, decided to purchased the BenQ DW1620 (oem) at newegg. Flashed with latest firmware b7p9 (converting it to the retail version). Fast, quiet....works Great !
