Need help choosing a DVD burner....
Posted: Mon Nov 29, 2004 8:31 pmMy computer is getting kinda old...it's a Dell PIII 600mhz with 128MB RAM and a 13.3GB hard drive. Believe it or not, I have never owned even a CD burner. I have decided to purchase one and started looking at prices. Considering a DVD burner can be had for a few bucks more, it appears it would be wise to go ahead and get a DVD burner since apparently most of those will burn CDs as well.
Anyway, I want something less than $150....would actually prefer less than $100 if possible. Preferably internal, but would consider external. I'm not sure how much I'll use it at this point, so speed really isn't nearly as important (though I don't want a "turtle" either) to me as reliability is. Basically, I want something that will reliably burn and play both CDs and DVDs on my somewhat aging computer. Also, I don't have any burning software so it would be nice to get a retail boxed unit with a nice host of software.
I tried to think of all things that might help you make a recommendation, but if you need more info, let me know. Thanks!
P.S. If you could also recommend a brand/model of media that would work well with your recommended drive, that would be great too.
