BenQ 1620 causing windows to blue screen when I put a DVD in

I just received today an I/O magic drive that I purchased friday at Staples. I opened the box, it sayd BenQ1620 B7C9. I flashed the fw to B7P9 and all was working fine. I put the Nero CD it came with and installed Nero. Installed DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. When I put a DVD in, my computer blue screened. It kept on doing this until I removed the DVD. I am running on a Dell DImension 8300. Any Ideas?

P.S. I search the forums for this problem and could not find a solution.

Uninstall InCD , see if that helps.

I didnt install that, only installed Nero OEM. This is what I've tried so far:

1) Installed the drive
2) Updated FW B7C9 -> B7P9
3) Installed Nero OEM
4) Tested Media on new drive
5) Initially I used CS on both drive having the BenQ as the top drive (master) and DVD Rom drive as the slave
6) Set Jumpers to Master (BenQ) Slave (DVD Rom)
7) Set BenQ as only drive

None of this works, the second I put in a Original DVD or a Data DVD I bluescreen. If I put in a data CD or a Blank DVD it is fine.

Deffinitely a software issue, probly something is set to auto run for DVD's. Your BSOD message give you any hints?

Not really, I get

STOP 0x0000007F (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I am thinking of disabling autorun see if this helps

After hours of fighting with my Dell, I finally got it to stop the BSOD everytime I put in a DVD. I uninstalled all software that was DVD related and installed Nero OEM suite 2. Now I am ready to enjoy my new BenQ with Nero 6.6 for the great price of $39.98.

Did you purchase this drive via the Staples site? I didn't get in on this deal (of course, it was a gamble as some units were BTC-manufactured :-? )

Yes I did, I purchased it online on Friday. I took the chance since the specs online matched the BenQ, specially the 2.4 X DL recording. So my gamble paid off. The media I will probably exchange in efforts to get a better one, I have read reports that some people actually got some MCC03 as Teon

Lucky you, it had sold out at both B&M and online when I tried to order. :x

Enjoy it. The good news is that OEM drives have dropped to the $50 range now, so I won't have to feel so bad about missing the deal soon enough.;)

If you bought the I/O Magic drive and not the HP there is a PM opportunity for you.

CompUSSR has the drive for $99.99 +$5 or $8 shipping depending on where you are.

16x4x16 Internal ATA Double Layer DVD+/-R/RW Drive
Manufacturer: I/O Magic
Mfg Part #: IDVD16DD
Product Number: 314999
$99.99

I called and somehow got $21 credited back to me. YPMMV (your pm may vary).

DO NOT MENTION THAT THIS IS THE DRIVE FROM THE BLACK FRIDAY SALE!!!!
Report back on your luck.

UPDATE! I received a call and they rescinded my PM. I probably screwed myself by posting this. Oh well.

thats all fine and stuff, but why pay that much for a DVD burner?

hoxlund, let me see if I understand your question...
thats all fine and stuff, but why pay that much for a DVD burner?

I pay $43 after rebate for a dvd burner. Then I find a place to PM to and lower my cost by $21 to $22 (after rebate of course). So why pay $22 for a DVD burner? Because it is a good deal to me.

I am not saying to buy it from CompUSSR, just use them to PM against. I wholeheartedly agree that $100 is just too much to pay for a no name DVD burner.

the way i read your post it sounded like you were spending $91.99

Not at all. And $91 is still too much for an I/O Magic drive.

Staples had this drive on sale on BF for $39.99 after rebate. The price went something like this:
$129.99 - $10 instant savings - $50 coupon - $30 rebate = $39.99 + tax. The CompUSSR price is ~$105 after shipping. If the CSR does not catch on to the coupon and rebate there is another $15 to PM against the difference between CompUSSR and Staples.

Some report the drive as being a BTC and others report getting a BenQ 1620. If mine is a BenQ I will be keeping it. If it is a BTC, ebay here we come!

I bought the drive at Staples and PM'ed against CompUSSR.

hoxlund:
In which state is your Staples that you work at located or do you work for the catalog? I have spent over $15,000 at Staples in the past 2 years. I used to live in Maryland and there were 3 staples by my work/home all along the same road too. I was there so much at one store that they all new me. Staples is the reason why my daughter's Upromise account has almost $300 in it. Now I live in a remote New Mexico town and the closest Staples is 2 hours away. :( for me :) for my wife.

Shouldn't take too long going up I35 to Colorado Springs from a small, remote New Mexico town.
