I burned some Tyon Yuden media with my Pioneer 107 firmware 1.20. And the playback seems fine, but when I try to copy the files to hard drive they seems to be copying it fails, and copying very slowly.

I tried using kprobe, could someone give me a fast guide on howto use it. Do you think the disks may have gotten damaged during shipping, they are from Ncix.

that code looks a little weird.... where did you buy these "Taiyo Yuden" DVD-Rs?

PostPosted: Fri Dec 03, 2004 5:06 pm

From the www.ncix.com
The media seems to have arrived a bit damaged, but not sure.
Thanks

TYG is usually an imitation (Hong Kong crap). Real Taiyo Yuden is TY01 and TY02

Are you sure you don't have that backwards? All my TY DVD-R is TYG0r. Where r is the revision, example, TYG00 is 2x DVD-R? TYG01 is 4x DVD-R, and TYG02 is 8x DVD-R In addition, that's all I've seen anywhere..

Have you thought about returning them and getting new ones? If their bad, I would exchange them.

If they are damaged, I would contact NCIX. I know NCIX and keep in very close contact with them, and I can guarentee you 100% that their Taiyo Yuden DVDRs are real and legitimate Taiyo Yuden media.

Also, you should update your Pioneer to 1.21

Well, I gotta now pay shipping to send the back to ncix. And are these real Ty dvdr or no.
Thanks

You said earlier you got them from ncix...

Sorry, i had newegg in mind. Got them of ncix when they had them on special and free shipping.

I burned two dvdr, the same data, one dvd-r is Ty, the other dvd-r is Smartbuy Prodic die. I tried copying the dvd-r back to my hard drive, the Smartbuy takes 10mins, while the Ty takes over 50 mins and still going. Something seems wrong. Did I just get a bad disk, or is the media fake or what. I wish I have some luck with media for once.
Thanks

as aviationwiz said it seems you have those codes backwards. i have TAIYO YUDEN printables from Rima.com which the media code is TYG01. videohelp.com media section it says TYG01 for 4x speed media & TYG02 for 8x speed media.

If there is only one retail store in the world that I *KNOW* for certain is selling legitimate made in Japan Taiyo Yuden DVDRs, It's ncix.com. Believe me, the consequences would be quite bad if this changed, and I do not make these comments lightly. Either the media was damaged, or your drive is having serious problems.

TYG00 is 2x DVD-R

Never have seen this code befor !!!

So any one has proof that TY used this code ?

Shouldn't 2x DVD-R have TAIYOYUDEN as MID.

That's why I had a ? after I said that, as I wasn't certain.

Hmm it seems that a addressing bit is different.
I wonder could you check with some other media or with some other drive what you get from these.
Hmm I wonder who screwed up Pioneer or TY.

does it help?

PostPosted: Sun Dec 05, 2004 4:59 am

Yeah now all I need is another example of the guy who started this topic.
He should use a different drive or some other media that's widely available.

As people can see what the benq and Toshiba are reporting is pretty close.
There reporting 6A and 6C for the second bit. Depending on how these seems to be determined this should be very logical.
The Pioneer drive from elec999 has a completely different value for the second bit.
So that's why I ask him if he could put up some id of a other well used disc or if he can scan the TY disc's in a different drive.
If the second drive should report something close to the pioneer value's then we know it's the media.
If the Pioneer is able to read the other media then It's also the media.
However if the other drive is reporting different and in line with the
Toshiba and the Benq drive then we know it's probally the pioneer who's screweing up.
If the Pioneer also gives screwed info back on other media then we know it's Pioneer who screwed up.
So that's why I asked.
