I go to Best Buy and get Fujis in the blue can if they say "Made in Japan."

Why use Ritek when you can use Taiyo Yuden? Especially since those discs I posted can burn at 16x on your burner.

$4 cheaper than the +Rs, though they will probably only burn up to 12x.

Actually, it's six time better. Just divided 12 by 2 on my Excel.

Acro Circle brand Optodisc 4x DVD-Rs burn VERY well on it... the same for Acro Circle brand Optodisc 8x DVD+Rs, but not yet Acro Circle brand 8x DVD-Rs.

I burn at 16x with TY/FUGI +R and 8X with riteck03(Memorex) +R. Stick with TY brands folks and FW 2.18. It is worth the extra few $$. I use to be a -R freak but have slipped over to the dark side  . My +R fugi/ty play in every player I put them in(Sony,RCA,Samsung,Daewoo,Sony play station =D> ).

Download the free Nero Infotool to find your current firmware. http://www.cdspeed2000.com/ The latest official is 2.18.

This a link contains all the available firmwares http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/. It sounds like you should stick with official firmwares for now. The instructions for loading it are located in a readme file within the zip file. It's easy to do.

Here is the official media list and their writing sppeds as well. http://www.de.nec.de./software/1677_Med ... riter_(DVT).pdf

I burn the 8X DVD-R Fuji branded Tayo Yuden (Look for "Made in Japan"). Best Buy had a 50 stack for $20 a few weeks ago, or you can buy them at supermediastore.com, meritline.com, or rima.com for $0.65 - 0.75 each. As stated earlier in the thread, these burn at 12X in the NEC 3500 which is about 6'20".

6-20 is excellent ty-R speeds. Check Best Buy, buy.com, and Staples for their sales.

These are actually 8x in the store. Fugi TY-R just for you =D> I might pick some of these up just to test them with 2.18. These are in stock in most stores and are in the Sunday ad.
