weird that Pioneer only adds support for Optodisc 8x DVD-Rs *now* on the Pioneer DVR-108 when the Pioneer DVR-107 has had support for them since their last firmware a while ago (version 1.21). I'll have to try them out though, since I expect excellent results like with the 107 :D

That is odd. When you do some tests with Dvr-108 and Optodisc 8x dvd-r, please let us know how good they do.

Your welcome :)

To hoxlund and everyone else,

Did the 1.18 firmware improve anything from what you can tell?

How good is the Dvr-108 after all the firmware updates that it has had? I haven't kept up with the drive in awhile. I just remember when it first came out everyone wanted the Nec 3500, and they didn't think the Pioneer Dvr-108 was any good. That was along time ago though. They have had a lot of firmware updates since then. I would just like to know how much the drive has progressed from when it first came out until now.

It would seem that 1.18 reduced mcc004 16x media to 12x , I guess pioneer decided it was not good at 16x.

It was 12x with 1.14 as well.

The writing quality is horrible with CMC and Ritek 16x DVD+R media.

Something went wrong with this one, I've never experienced quality drop with a new firmware on Pioneer burners. TY T02 was a lot better at 12X for me with v. 1.14.
My A07 burns the same 4X -R Fuji media with a lot better quality.
What happened??? #-o

maxell is the only media i have that burns at 16x, TY TYG02 burns at 12x, princo burns at 4x

thats the media i have

you can load up the hacked firmware and burn everything at 16x, i just wouldn't try princo at 16x, maybe 8x max:

The plextor branded 8x dvd+r taiyo yuden media i have works at 16x (though no one should care, as the drive is not faster at 16x than at 12x)

you didn't specify, is this with the hacked firmware? @ 16x?

that's good news that there's fw that does support 16x

It's probably not so much a change to the firmware.. but one to the updater.

hoxlund,

Thanks for posting about the drive. How do I read scans from a Pioneer A08? I know it's probably different than other drives

Is your scan, Mystery Man's, and jhigh2000's scan good?

my scans are great, so far the only program i know that scans from pioneer drives is dvdinfopro
