I just thought of this situation which I need some help.

Currently I have a LITE-ON 52x burner that came with NERO 5.5.9.13 and I just saw that the I/O Magic is a BENQ 1620 burner and also comes with NERO OEM suite.

The question is will this NERO OEM suite (What version of NERO is this?) also recognize the Lite-ON 52 burner? As you know NERO makes version that will ONLY work with a certain burner which brings up the question of to conflicting NERO's looking for their respected burners.

How do I work around this situation?

Oh-oh! There are several contexts is which the term OEM is used for Nero. For example, the OEM Nero Express that came in the Retail boxed version of my Verbatim rebadged Lite-On 52x24x52x CD-RW will work only with that burner. OTH, the OEM Nero Express that came with my OEM NEC ND-3500A also works with my Memorex rebadged Lite-On 52x24x52x CD-RW and therefore may work with any optical drive.

I'm not sure that there is anyway to tell in advance.

I was afraid you were going to say that...I don't want to be running 2 different versions of NERO on the same system because thy cannot play friendly together. That is ridicuous if that is the case!

Maybe someone out there has this combination:

Cendyne (which is actually a LiteON 52 burner) and BENQ 1620. I bet I have to use the NERO OEM suite that comes with the I/O Magic NEQ 1620 and that should recognize the LiteON 52x.

What NERO version are you using?

Why not just buy the full commercial version of Nero so you can use it with all your burners ?

Why buy that when I have 2 versions of the other? I the OEM Suite will work with both drives that I will be set. From what I hear this may be the case.

if that indeed turns out to be the case, a workaround that can be used:
you create two .reg files, one of which enters into the registry the serial key of Nero #1, the other enters the serial key of Nero #2.
whenever you want to use either burner, you double-click the first or second .reg file to enter the appropriate serial key into Nero so it will recognize the drive you are about to use.

The OEM that came with my NEC ND-3500A is version 6.+, not sure which 6. Can check when I get home tonight. I would expect that you get about the same with your BenQ, a more recent version than the Cendyne.

Now about getting lucky. It seems to me that when a drive marketer of retail drives arranges for S/W from Nero, it is part of the deal to be restricted. OTH, for OEM packaging of drives, the drives can end up in any number of branded or white box PCs, so it is a different situation.

Ok people I finally got the OFFICIAL word from NERO tech support in Germany about this issue

"With Nero Express from your NERO 6 OEM Suite you will be able to access both burners."

Used to be you could buy a cheap retail license to unlock your OEM version. It used to be $20, can't say if it's still available. That's what I did back in version 5.5, and I'm still using that same license in 6.6. There's no substitute for having the retail license.

an upgrade from an OEM version of Nero 6, or any previous version of Nero, to Nero 6 "Reloaded" full version costs $39.99.

i'm not sure, but i think back in the day of Nero 5.5, the upgrade from the OEM to the full version was indeed $19. too bad the price went up.

Check this for Retail Nero 6 in a box.
Then forget the upgrade.
