Does anyone have any idea why my 6 month-old MADDOG 6-in-1 NEC2500A DVD R/RW drive fails to recognize CDs. It did once, but "not no more". Now, it only recognizes DVDs.
(Installed on a computer running Windows XP)


I am sure this is not a unique problem as I've seen the same question asked on other sites. However, as of yet, nobody has provided a satisfactory solution to the problem. Does anybody have a better solution than "Buy a new DVD R/RW drive"

it fails within windows?

i don't know what to advise anyone else, but i try to delete/remove device in device mgr -- reboot, and let windows find it
usually i hear it the other way around -- dvdrw won't read dvds -- reads cds fine
