LG GSA 4081b problems

I'm having problems with a 5 month old LG GSA 4081b. When I initially installed it it worked perfectly, recording on any type of blank DVD I used. Now it will read DVD's and CD's that have already been written to but will not recognize a blank DVD that I want to record onto.

When the DVD tray is closed it say DVD-RAM Drive (D:) when opened it changes to CD Drive (D:)

I've reinstalled the drivers and upgraded the firmware version to 104. Is there any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this problem?

I also have a 4081B and recently after using DVDShrink the drive no longer recognises any kind of media (other than commercial DVD movie disks) ... doesn't recognise blank media, music CDs etc. The standard message i get is 'please insert a disk'. sometimes the writer is shown as a DVD RAM writer and other times as a CD writer.

If it's on warrantty - just tell 'em to replace it. Not worth the hassle.

Yep, I have sent it in for warranty repair/replacement but what i'm more concerned about is the reports of people getting them fixed just to have the problem re-occur. The drive seems to have some sort of design problem?

I started to have problems with my LG 4081b after two months after i bought it, so i removed it from computer untill today when i read this solution. I opened up my DVD drive and lubed the rails and it worked.

Thanks
